If you asked Obelix how's Switzerland, he would  tell you it's flat, he was drunk and sleeping the whole trip**.  If you asked me how are the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, world heritage, I answer : stairs.  Here is the trick, you arrive from the top of the mountains (which is really great for the view),  so you have to go down for a walk. And to go up to go to sleep. Imagine the  Grand Canyon open on thousands of thousands of acres of bush. You decide to go down for a little walk, a sightseeing of a fall...  and you begin your mini trip with a monstrous staircase to the bottom of the valley. Then you can walk for hours in the bush, enjoying birds, parrots, giant eucalyptus, creeks, falls, avoiding spiders, snakes, branches and boulders and when you decided to go back to the civilisation : staircase. Except that this time you have to climb... And that you're tired (bush is hard). My average walk in the bush is 3 hours and 2,500 steps. Mind you, not regular steps: steps made of steel (the best), wood or carved in the rock (worst, around 1.5  foot high and I'm short...). I'm making muscles, you should see my legs now.
I went for a walk highly recommended  by the guy from the motel in Blackheat. The track is rated medium. Easy. I had a medium 2 days ago, a walk in a park. Almost.  This time, I ended up crawling around giant boulders in a creek for 2 hours, avoiding all the dead trees (home of spiders) and climbing (or descending) 2,730 steps.
The Blue Mountains are wonderfully beautiful, huge, blue from the eucalyptus vapors,  with endless bush at their feet. They tested me.  I liked that. And I discovered that my limits are farer away then I thought. Nice feeling.

**You really must find and read "The Adventures of Asterix, the Gaul",    Belgian comic books. They're translated in English. They're highly funny. Especially the one about a trip to America "The Great Crossing". Obelix is Asterix's best friend. He doesn't stand alcohol. In "Asterix in Helvetia", Obelix drank white wine with the cheese fondue and ended up sleeping for 2 days while Asterix was crossing the mountains and dragging him. To him Helvetia is flat. And clean. I love those books and I quote them all the time, which is a bit embarrassing around here.  Try to find "The Great Crossing",  you won't regret it. Belgians people are great at chocolate, beers, surrealism AND comic books (remember, Tintin is Belgian).
