Australie me voila/Australia here I am

Me voici a Sydney.
Seeya mates.

Here I am in Sydney. It's the 2nd of Nov, no 1st for me this year. Lost somewhere in space...
I've not seen much of the city so far, but it looks like beautiful. Like if London had had a child with the best part of New york, while in North Italy (hard to figure out, I'll take pictures).  The only thing is that I'm getting lost all the time. Of course I'm jet lagged but something is wrong with the sun over here. My internal compass (usually perfect) seems out of order. I hope it will work out soon otherwise I'll end in the middle of the bush for good. Seeya mates.

Jeanie who took so good care of me when in Hanford,  asked a friend of hers if I could stay at her house if I ever come around Arroyo Grande so that how I arrived to Laura and Ben's house, almost unannounced.
I was acceuillie like a member of the family, by the kindest couple.
Laura showed me the neibourhood, Ben told us amazing stories and we had an evening at the pub drinking black beer (what was its name again, Laura?) and listenning blue grass music. I only missed George C. and his hair net (?)*.
During the day, I went to Montana de Oro. I figured a hill where people had discovered gold, but I was wrong, those are hills of pure gold as you can see... Miles and miles of golden dunes. Spanish humour I guess.

Morro Bay, Shell shop

This is a solemn appeal to boycott the Shell Shop in Morro Bay. It looks like innocuous first but they are thousands of thousands shells which have been genocized in order to fill that sinister place. I can tell you that they weren't be harvested on beaches. I

Grand National Rodeo

I went back in SF to go to the "Grand National Rodeo". All the people I met here tried to discourage me to go but I had to see that once in my life. Those guys must be mad. And poor beasts (I don't mean cowboys).
But I met someone and I think I'm in love. He is tall, very tall, handsome, brown hair and has sweet eyes. We met in his room after the rodeo. Actually they were 6. Clydesdales, huge, beautiful cart horses. It won't be easy to host one of them in my tiny garden in Liege...

Donc, j'ai ete a Big Sur, logique.

Big Sur Valley

When in Yellowstone, I asked where to go on the coast to a lady from California, she said without hesitating "Big Sur", so I went to Big Sur. Logical. That part of the coast is beautiful (which one isn't?) but Big Sur is not really on the coast, it's hidden in a valley in the forest. I stayed at the Pfeiffer SP lodge (did I tell you that I love NPs? I guess, yes) and I went to the tiny village to have a drink. They actually have a bar at the lodge but it was empty at 7 because all the travellers who stayed in NPs are over 70 this time of year. I found a Irish pub in the village, called The Maidden, I recommend it. I had 2 Guinnesses, and a couple (or two) of Smithwicks in a pathetic attempt to avoid hangover, and an hangover the next morning, of course. I was caught, I don't know how, to play dice with the locals (2 Irishmen, one local who played piano like a bulldozer, a couple from LA, 4 Australians and the 2 bartenders). I loose a lot, and I also won once. Result : + one dollar! Not bad he? I also  hiked a lot during the day ;)

Hanford

Cheap Alice and Bobby Bob, the true legends of the West.

I was in Hanford for 3 days. I met the most wonderful people in the whole world. The amazing encounters began with Cheap Alice and Bobby Bob the cowboy at the Market downtown.  I was with Jeanie, the Heart of the Log Cabin. We first bought some soap to put in my bag and flowers to eat. Then some green magical herbs that lool like Green Fairy's Hair and were delicious on my wrap. We waited a little for Cheap Alice to come with a glass of sunshine, listenning Cowboy Music. When she finally came, Bobby Bob the dancing cowboy asked her for a dance and she refused, of course. He stayed sadly there, drinking dragon blood and eating calamari. When we came back home Paige the Mermaid was waiting for us. We talked about the amazing night and about Robin the Snow Fairy on her way to distant Norfolk and about Gene the Voyager who was awaited with great impatience. Some are real legends from the West, some are the salt of the earth and I love them deeply. Thank you Jeanie, Gene and Paige,  you gave me home when I needed one and was tired of travelling. I hope we'll meet again soon.
Sorry guys, a lot of private jokes here.

Si j'etais toi, j'irais pas/You don't wanna go there

C'est la 3e fois que j'entends "you don't wanna go there".

It's the 3rd time I hear "you don't wanna go there"... I must remember to answer WHY NOT? next time. My map showed me that nice little road from Le Grand to Raymond, it seemed perfect to reach the south of Yosemite on my way to visit friends in Hanford. I asked an UPS man if this is the road to Raymond, and all I got is "you don't wanna go there". You know me. I took that nice little road. 10 miles on a very nice but narrow paved road, and suddenly, crossing the border with Mariposa county (is this a homeless county or what?)  only dust under my tyres. Ok. I know, I survive Montana. I must confess that 30 miles in the Foothills stressed me a little (I totally forgot to take pictures) but woah, what a view! So, if by any chance, you end up in Le Grand, just tell me and I'll show you how to take the nice little road, it's worth it. Only if it's not raining cos that dust when it rains, it's more like melted chocolate.

To bear or not to bear, that is the question

Trinity river.

Whiskeytown. J'aurai du me douter.

I left the coast and crossed the Coastal Moutain Range. Amazing landscapes, it looks like Twilight movies, except for the sun.  The weather was so good that I decided to camp again. In bear country again. Keep your food locked, don't eat close to your tent, make noise, don't surprise them, they don't like that... Ok, I know. Whiskeytown NP looked like a good place to camp, a beautiful lake, lots of pines and bears. 4 o' clock, the rangers are gone (winter season). It took me 30 minutes to understand how to register, do I pay the day use fees for today or tomorrow? Then I have to fill the paper, decide where to camp, put the money in the box, etc...  But I don't know why, for the first time, I decided to have a look at the camp first. A really quiet one. Then a man out from a bush "need help Ma'am??" Errr no thanks. Then another one, same scenario. Then another one. All those nice fishermen, out from nowhere (a tent somewhere maybe), were really willing to help me and even followed me to be sure I'm not lost... I ended in a motel in Redding. I guess I prefer bears. Whiskeytown. I should have known better. Is that a name for a National Park?

La cote nord/The north coast

As soon as you cross Golden Gate Bridge, you're not in town anymore. 15 miles north and you're in Muir Wood, a remaining part of primitive forest of Redwood pines, thinner than sequoias but much more taller. You suddenly feel like a smurf, a tiny little person (only not blue).
Biiiig trees... Then you choose (why?) to take the highway 101, four o'clock, traffic jam. Exhausted after 30miles, you stop at KOA campground in Petaluma and you spend the night
listenning the sweet sound of the highway. That morning, I swore to myself that the next night will be a quiet one. I took the deserted highway 1 and arrived in KOA Manchester after an enchanting trip along the magnificent coast. The campground was deserted, quiet, perfect. Only that I was so focused on building my little Big Agnes properly, I didn't listen very carefully. As soon as I was in bed I heard the deafenning sound of the ocean, 200 yards from where I was. A noise so powerful, I first didn't understand what It was. Never mind I slept well. I believe some sounds are better than others. One afternoon riding on the beach, with rancher Toby (yes I did it again, can't help myself anymore, thanks Ron & Phyllis ;) walking in the waves of mighty Pacific, one morning wandering in lovely village of Elk, some more miles and I arrived in Trinidad, following Karen & Chris advice (thanks BTW). A tiny little port, with a bay which looks like a mini Halong Bay.
This morning, I went to Agate beach. An old man was lying on the beach, looking for something. I asked him if he needed help, but he was collecting white, green and yellow gems. He showed me how to find them. I didn't find gold in Montana but I found agates in California. My tiny little backpocket is now full of little jewels. Pictures as soon as I find a computer.

San Francisco

I had planned a busy schedule in SF, visiting museums, exhibitions, parts of the town I didn't know... I did nothing planned. Actually I did nothing at all. The sun was shining, I walked on the wharf, visiting the historic boats (I'll miss the NPs when I'll leave US), shopping organic food at Ferry market. Just smelling the air, a fun mix of hippie 60's and seafood fair. That week was Fleet Week which means an air show on Sunday, parade of ships and tons of testosterone in town as the sailors, marines etc were everywhere. Not my cup of tea but fun to watch. I ate lots of crabs and clam chowder just in case of McDos to come.

Big Bang ou comment guerir mon histoire d'amour avec le Montana en un jour / Big Bang or how to cure my love story with Montana in one day

Yesterday evening,  I encountered the Dark Side of Montana, I stayed in Laurel (half of the readers will understand). I stayed there cos I wanted to visit Nez Perce Battlefield before reaching Billings. I found the most depressive Motel in America, the Russel Motel. I recommend. Then I went for a drink in the famous Caboose Saloon : live music on Thu, ouch. I miss Joe's songs. I had a chloride-diet-Coke because of the car and the memory of Ennis hangover... Dale and Aliza will understand. I remembered too late that the only scar I saw on  the beautiful Yellowstone valley is in Laurel, that huge and stinky factory, industrial something.
15 patrons in line at the bar (you call them red necks, right?) some without teeth, some without hair, some without brain, some without any of those and Bobby Evans singing Johnny Cash. I love Johnny Cash, I don't like ticaboom ticaboom Bobby Evans at all.
However, the saloon has a certain look, 3 big billiard tables, nobody playing though. It's decorated with loads of all sized bronze sculptures, I had my drink near a half naked cowgirl, full size.
It's raining a lot today and I met this guy who said that he had to change his travel plans because it's snowing on the Beartooth Mountain Range, where I was last week.
Time to go to California.

Back in town

A little bit dizzy, having been pampered for a week by 8 people who just wanted my happiness, I visited the ghost towns of Virginia and Nevada City (plus the almost abandoned one of Ennis), I quickly realized that I had to go back to civilisation if I wanted to keep what I had left of joie de vivre. I can tell you that finding civilisation is a real challenge here in Montana (kidding guys).
The city of Bozeman was waiting for me. I stayed there for 2 days and I loved it. First you only see its provincial look, one street, some amazing ads from the fifties than you realised that it's a busy, young, fun and welcoming city. I found a galerie of Native American modern art (a change), an organic cafe, the historic neighborhood full of old charming wooden houses, two huge second-hand book shops, a library up-to-date (thanks for the free internet access), some dinosaurs and... The MSU has there a big campus (I love American campus(es?). I felt like like at home, I'll come back.

Translation really difficult. We have a very famous comic books in Belgium about a Gaul in Roman time. His name is Asterix. He has a friend who likes to eat a lot, named Obelix. In "Asterix and the Great Crossing", they go by accident in America and discover  "a strange world where anything could happened". Obelix is hungry, of course, find a bear, find strange birds they called glooglooos and stuffed them with bear. I recommend that book if you could findd it, it's hilarious.
So I found gloogloos too, but no bear this time.
